Reviewing of the family Acanthaceae

The revision of the family Acanthaceae, one of the activities under the project  "Establish and Improve baseline inventories for spatial data on biodiversity - Flora of Namibia Project" (Task ID 060) under the SASSCAL-NBRI collaboration, is well underway.  As part of this activity Dr. Iain Darbyshire from the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew and Dr. Erin Tripp from the University of Colorado, USA shared their knowledge and expertise during a recent workshop in May 2014.

The following aspects were covered:

  • Field identification of species within in this family
  • Construction of identification keys and how to use it
  • Indepth exploration of characteristics of the family as well as some subfamilies
  • Literature sourcing online.
